A New Beginning

We may have lost on Prop. 8 in California (although Gloria Allred is already stirring up lawsuits on the matter), but we captured the Federal Government.

Today's front page of the New York Times about sums it up:

Thank God.

Goodbye, George. Don't let the door hit you in the ass...

on your way out.

Tomorrow America goes to the polls and, no matter what happens, by the end of the day, or days, or the week, we will in all likelihood have a brand-spanking-new President elect.

And that lame assed douchebag who has lurked in the White House for nearly 8 years while his cronies ravaged the Constitution, New Orleans and the Economy, will finally have to face the fact that the party is OVER and in just a few weeks he'll be leaving town... for good.

This was the national debt on the day he took office:

$5.7 T (that's "T" as in "Trillion")

today its:

$10.5 T (yes, "T" as in "Trillion." Are you learning-impaired or something?)

(here's the fun website the Treasury runs where you can check this out for yourselves: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np

One man. 8 Years. Nearly 5 Trillion Smackeroos. Wouldn't you like to know where it went? I would. War, mostly. War in Afghanistan. War in Iraq. War in general. "Look, Daddy, I can WIN the war you lost!!!" "Look, Daddy, I'm as good as Jeb!!!" "Please love me, daddy."

I know I'll find myself on Wednesday morning thinking, "Oh, Jeebus, are you STILL in the White House? When the hell are you moving out?" It's gonna be a long couple of months until late January when Barack Obama is sworn in as our next President, Chief Magistrate and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

An aside to the idiots out there. If you are a civilian the President is NOT "your Commander-in-Chief" or "my Commander-in-Chief." He is merely THE Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. No need to salute him. We do not live in a military dictatorship (yet). And unlike the Queen of England, he does not Troop the Colours in front of his Army every year.

You can almost feel New York on the verge of exhaling a collective sigh of relief now that our long national nightmare is nearly over.

Thank God.

Pennsylvania Polka!

Oh, you must see this. It's the "Mormon Polygamists Wives Calendar" for 2008. It's so wrong, but it feels so right. Click HERE right now.

Oh, alright, on to Pennsylvania. Most people don't think about Pennsylvania very much but if they do at all they usually think about Punxatawney Phil, the Philly Phanatic, artery-hardenin' Cheesesteaks, the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Year's Mummers Parades and Independence Hall (where something happened, a long, long time ago).

That about sums up what most folks know about Pennsylvania.

Today, however, the eyes of an anxious nation are fixed upon the Keystone State (Misnomer. Pennsylvania is one of a handful of Commonwealths (not states) here in the east, the others being Massachusetts and Virginia).

Hillary and Barack are locked in a death-grip in PA today. They've been flinging televised nasty-grams at each other for the past week (and I got to enjoy them because I live in the no-man's-land between Philly and New York and so I get all the stations from both markets). It got ugly. But, to their credit, for the last 2 days things have lightened up... slightly... between them.

Hillary will most likely carry the primary (but not by much). But the thing to watch, so I'm told, is the popular vote. For as goes the vote, so go the superdelegates you've heard so much about.

Frankly, I wish the whole thing was over. One thing you can count on us Democrats to do in any election year is to eat our own young.

I want the war in Iraq to be over, now. I want universal health care, now.

Oh, and I'd really like to have a national law that people must purchase automobile insurance NOT on the basis of how old they are, or where they live, but, rather, on how many miles they drive every year. It seems to me that people who drive a bajillion miles every year should pay more than the little old lady who only takes Bessie out for a spin every Saturday to pick up groceries.

Next down the wish-list is the usual gay agenda stuff; repeal of DADT, universal legality of gay partnerships (call 'em whatever the hell you want to call 'em, I just want 'em to be in full parity with what the Hets got) and for everybody to be really nice to each other.

Like that'll happen. Like any of that'll happen.

It won't happen.

Why do I bother to care?

Heath Ledger is Still Deceased.

Don't you love mass media in this country? There's an election in the making, an election of monumental import and yet the dominant news items seem to revolve around the unfortunate, untimely, wasteful and sorrowful death of an amazing young actor whose work I have long admired.

As bad as it's been, between Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollyweird, the real freak show will begin as soon as the scary assholes from Fred Phelps' Church of We Hate Fags (or whatever it's called) show up and try to picket Frank Campbell's funeral home up on Madison Avenue.

If they actually have the nerve to come they will find out exactly how tender the New York City Police Department can be as their sorry asses get summarily thrown into the backs of Paddy Wagons and hauled downtown to The Tombs, where they can rot for a few days in cells full of crack addicts, serial killers, and tranny hos until until some judge is given the greenlight by the Mayor to spring them, long after the funeral and on 100 bajillion dollars bond. If they can raise it.

Google also had some fun with this subject. Up until yesterday, in their "on-line language translation" function, if you typed in "Heath Ledger is dead" and asked for a translation into Spanish, it came out "Tom Cruise esto muerto." It no longer works, so they must've fired the programmer who originally did it. I liked it.

Yet again, a whole cottage industry of death has sprung up around a sad event. Just like Anna Nicole a year ago.

We are a sick nation. No wonder we're all fat, lazy, depressed, overtreated, overmedicated and overwrought.

Let the young man rest in peace and let us start to ponder the significance of choosing wisely in the upcoming presidential elections.

It's time to right some egregious wrongs.

George W. Bush - Heretic

Is George W. Bush the last person on earth to know that he's a heretic. A heretic being defined as:

"...claiming this or that thing is true about or is done by God."

He has claimed, allowed others to claim and/or personally believes that he was chosen (anointed) by God to lead our country.

None of us knows Gods plans or intentions. Ever. Not you, not me and not Frat Boy George. Any claims to the contrary are heretical.

It also reeks of that old heretical belief in "The Divine Right Of Kings" to govern the people they have been born into the royal family of, and that God chooses absolute monarchs, willy-nilly, based solely on dumb-luck and genetics.

Somebody should remind George that nobody died and named him King... and that 230 years ago we fought a bloody war to extract ourselves from that sort of insane subservience to an earthly power, embodied in one Royal Personage, in a capital city far, far away.

We got rid of that George through horrific violence.

Now our King George's Magical Kingdom is falling apart at the seams. His wars in far off countries have netted us nothing but mountains of corpses and astronomical debt which can never be settled with the foreigners who have loaned the money to us, an economy that's collapsing around his ears (and ours), jobs that have disappeared for eternity to offshore lands in order to prop up the corporate profits of his owners here at home.

Not one single thing has he accomplished, aside from making his personal cronies richer.

Thousands of young Americans are dead because of him and his self-will run riot.

Despite the appearance of nothing but gloom on the horizon, there is a glimmer of hope.

A year from now he will no longer be King George.

He will most likely return to his former role as the drunken Village Idiot.

Poly-Ticks

For all you non-Paultards out there, that's Ron Paul over there on the right. He's a Texas Libertarian who's really caught on with a certain segment of the population.

That segment would be the segment I call "I'm crazy as fucking hell and I'm not going to take it anymore." You know the type. Real Howard Beale's (for more information look up the movie "Network" -- then rent the damn thing and watch it, you illiterate couch-potatoes).

Some folks are getting real scared because Ron is raising so much money on the internets. Carloads of cash, so I hear. Mountains of moolah!

I have a theory about that. I think that the people sending him bushels full of money know perfectly well he hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell of winning. But he DOES have a snowball's chance in hell of scaring the shit out of the mainstream politicians --- enough so that they might actually start taking one or two "real" stands on the issues, as opposed to focus-group approved positions regarding the price of pablum in Paducah. Or whatever is politically safe to espouse these days.

Ron Paul believes we should arm six year olds. He also believes that gay people should be able to get married. He's a refreshing blast of left, right and everything in between.

More will be revealed regarding him, as we say in the recovery racket.

Over on the right-side of LaLaLand we have Mike Huckabee. Isn't he enough to make you move to Canada? Jeebus-freak, anti-abortion, anti-queer preacher man and physician (sort of). Every evangelical Christian Republicans dream candidate.

Unfortunately, he's not the dream candidate of all the saggy-assed, neo-con, right-winged, rich white guys who currently call the shots at the head of the Gay Old Party, like Dubya and Chainy. The one's who routinely pander to the same rabid, gun-totin', string up the niggras, Jews and queers (say "AMEN, JEEBUS!") base that Huckster might actually be a part of! God forbid! (If we actually did what we promised to do then who would bring us cocktails at the country club ... or arrange our loans, or decorate our homes or take our wives out to lunch and listen to their mouths for hours on end?)

And suddenly all those years of pandering to the crazies on the right is starting to look like it was a really bad idea, thank you Karl Rove.

So we are now nearing the time when we must start separating the wheat from the chaff, the extremists from the statespeople and the people who might actually get "something" done from the maniacs who'd just go to DC and piss everybody off.

I don't have any dream candidates yet. To be honest, I think they all suck.

But at least I know who I won't bother voting for.

If They Held a Gun to My Head....

as I was standing in the voting booth and they said "vote for a Republican" I have to admit that I'd probably pull the trigger, er, lever in favor of Rudy Guiliani.

I'm no fan of Rudy's. As far as I'm concerned he ripped out the heart of New York City when he cleaned up 42nd Street, got rid of the video arcades, street whores and crack dealers (and their plainclothes counterparts) and turned the whole thing into friggin' DisneyWorld-North.

I'm also no fan of how he cleaned up the rest of the city under the campaign slogan of "Cracking Down on Quality-of-Life Crimes" (i.e. spitting, drinking, playing your guitar on a streetcorner, urinating on police cars, etc.)

And I'm REALLY no fan of how he single-handedly saved New York City on 9/11. Most New Yorkers I know feel exactly the same way. He makes it sound like everybody else was out of town that day.

This past Sunday, on some talking-head yakfest on tv, somebody asked him about the Queer Issue (like I'm an "issue" to somebody... which also pisses the fuck out of me) and he got all flustered (keep in mind that a gay couple sheltered him when his wife threw him out one time) and he started hemming and hawing about the difference between "being" something and actually "doing" something. He skated dangerously close to the old "love the sinner, not the sin" bullshit.

So, naturally, I had to go in search of some photo evidence of Rudy "doing" something.

Like drag.

More than once.

In fact he seemed to really dig the shit out of dressing up in women's clothes and makeup.

A lot.

Just sayin'.

He's a New York Style Politician. And when push comes to shove, if it simply MUST be a Republican, then I'd rather have a New York Style Politician in the White House than an Arkansas or Arizona kind.

Because they all look like shit in drag (can you imagine Huckabee or Cain in full regalia?)

But Rudy looks pretty good. For a Republican.
